The first day in the recording studio is always terribly depressing.

Always.

There is
no exception
to this rule.

It's especially cruel, because I tend to forget about this, so it gets to me every single time.

There are various reasons for this. One of them being that it doesn't matter how well I am prepared, because there is always something that can and
will go wrong
. Always. --  Or that's how it usually appears ... (at first).

One of the things that seemed to trigger it this time was an old song that I wanted to redo, or rather the
discovery
that ALL the data for this track had been irreparably corrupted ... and that the complete recording was therefore lost
... - forever
.

Back in my hotel-room I felt absolutely

devastated

.

I went to the bathroom to change for the night … and as I undressed, I carelessly dropped my shirt to the floor. I was about to pick it up again, when I realised that it had landed in the shape of a
black bird
… -

a SYMBOL OF

DEATH

.
My first reaction was:

"Well, tell me something that I don't know already!"

But then I went to get my camera and made a photo of it after all. If only to demonstrate that the message had not been entirely unnoticed.

As I looked at the image captured on the display, I clearly sensed that there was more to this than the obvious. But I was too tired to think about it, so I went to bed.

I woke up at 2:00am … bathed in moonlight … and with a
splitting headache
. I dragged myself to the open window and gazed at the night-sky. That's when I realised that there was a tune taking shape in the back of my mind … -
a
funereal
variation of the song that had been destroyed
.

To cut the story short: we recorded this new version the following week … - and it turned out to be
SO MUCH BETTER
than the version I
originally
wanted to do!

Yes, the universe
is
'mental' after all...
